Bar Optics & Brackets

Bar optics and brackets are the sort of thing you only really notice when something’s off. A pub or bar that’s running well tends not to think about them much – they just work, service keeps moving, every spirit measure comes out the same as the last. It’s when the kit is wrong, or missing, or wearing out that the problems stack up.

We’ve been supplying bar optics, optic brackets and barware to the UK hospitality venue trade for over 25 years, so we’ve seen most of what can go wrong.

The range at Ascot Wholesale covers single-measure and multi-measure optics, wall-mounted brackets, spirit optic fittings and everything in between – at trade prices, with bulk discounts for larger orders and next-day delivery right across the UK.

Bar Optics for Pubs, Bars & Hospitality Venues

In our experience, the venues that run into trouble with spirit measures are rarely the ones who didn’t know the rules – they’re the ones who cut corners on kit and paid for it later, either in stock loss or a licensing visit that didn’t go well. A properly set-up bar optic removes that risk entirely. Same optic, same pull, same measure. 25ml, 35ml, 50ml – whichever your licence specifies, it comes out right every single time.

That consistency matters differently depending on the type of venue. A high-volume pub doing 400 covers on a weekend needs its staff pulling measures without thinking about it. A hotel bar running a smaller, more considered operation still needs the same legal compliance – it just looks different in practice. The optic range we carry covers both ends of that, and most things in between.

Wall-mounted Bar Optics: Single & Multi-bottle Setups

Wall mounting is how the vast majority of UK bars run their optics, and it’s been that way for a long time. There’s a reason for that – wall-mounted optics keep bottles stable, they free up the counter, and in a busy service they let staff pour without having to think about balance or grip. Nine times out of ten, if you’re setting up a bar from scratch or replacing existing kit, wall mounting is the right call.

We stock single-bottle wall brackets for the straightforward setups and rotary stands for venues that need a wider range accessible in one spot. The back-bar display at a busy pub running fifteen spirits looks very different to a small hotel lounge with six – both are catered for.

Optic Brackets: Secure Wall Mounting for Any Bar

Worth saying clearly: the bracket matters as much as the optic head. We’ve spoken to venues over the years where the optic itself was fine but a worn or undersized optic bracket was causing problems – bottles shifting slightly, mounts working loose over time, the kind of thing that’s easy to overlook until it isn’t.

Our brackets are built for daily trade use, fit most standard UK optic heads, and come in wall bracket and shelf bracket styles to cover different bar layouts. To be fair, the install is usually pretty quick – most bars have them up within the hour.

Spirit Optics: Consistent Measures for High-volume Service

If you’re not sure which type of bar optic you need, there’s a good chance it’s a spirit optic. They’re the most common type in UK licensed premises by some distance – an inverted bottle, a fixed measure dispensed with each pull, no jigger involved. 25ml or 35ml depending on your licence and your setup. Straightforward in principle, and in practice.

The spirit optics we stock are from Beaumont, which if you’ve worked in the UK on-trade for any length of time will need no introduction. They’re built for high-volume use in pubs, bars and hotels – reliable day in, day out, and a known quantity when it comes to compliance with UK weights and measures legislation.

Why Choose Ascot Wholesale for Bar Optics?

Honestly, we’d rather let the 25 years speak for itself than go on about it too much. Over 25 years supplying the UK hospitality industry means we’ve worked with independent pubs, small hotel groups, large venue operators and everything in between. The kit we supply has to work in all of those contexts, so we’re fairly particular about what we stock.

Trade accounts at Ascot Wholesale are straightforward to set up and come with wholesale pricing across the full range. Next-day delivery across the UK is standard on qualifying orders. If you’re mid fit-out and need something quickly, the trade team is a phone call away on 01256 769990 – we’d rather sort it out in five minutes than have you wait on an email chain.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are bar optics used for?

Bar optics attach to an inverted bottle and dispense a fixed, pre-set measure of spirit with each pull – pubs, bars, hotels and hospitality venues use them because they keep every pour compliant with UK weights and measures law without relying on whoever’s behind the bar to judge the measure by eye. Less waste too, which adds up over a busy week.

What measure sizes are available for bar optics?

The two you’ll be choosing between in most cases are 25ml and 35ml. Those are the legal spirit measure sizes specified under the Weights and Measures Act 1985 for licensed premises in England, Wales and Scotland. 50ml optics are also available – useful for liqueurs mainly. The thing to check before you order is the premises licence itself, because some licences name a specific measure size and you’re not going to want to argue that with an inspector.

Are bar optics a legal requirement in UK pubs?

This one comes up a lot, and it’s worth being clear about it. The optic as a device isn’t the legal requirement – what the Weights and Measures Act 1985 actually requires is that spirits are served in a legal measure of 25ml or 35ml on licensed premises in England, Wales and Scotland. A calibrated optic is the most practical way to comply with that, and the most defensible if it ever comes up during an inspection. Free-pouring spirits on a licensed premises is a different conversation entirely.

Do bar optics need to be approved or stamped?

Yes. Any optic used on licensed premises needs to be stamped or certified to confirm it’s delivering an accurate measure. That requirement has been around since the Weights and Measures Act 1963. All the optics we supply are commercial trade products that meet the relevant UK standards for licensed premises – that’s not something we’d be flexible on.

What is the difference between a 25ml and a 35ml optic?

Just the volume dispensed, but the choice has implications. 25ml is the smaller of the two legal spirit measures and tends to be the default in England. 35ml is more common in Scotland and has become more popular with venues in England that prefer a fuller standard measure – to be fair, customer expectations on what a “single” looks like have shifted a bit over the years. Both are legal under the Weights and Measures Act 1985. Which you run comes down to the premises licence first, then your own preference. Some venues stock optics in both sizes for different spirits, which is a perfectly sensible approach.

What types of bar optic brackets do you stock?

We stock wall-mounted brackets for single bottles, shelf brackets designed for 700ml and 1-litre bottles, and rotary multi-bottle stands for high-volume setups. Wall brackets are the most common choice for back-bar spirit displays – shelf brackets tend to come into play where the wall isn’t an option for whatever reason, and the rotary stands suit venues where staff need fast access to a range of bottles without moving along the bar.

Will your optic brackets fit standard UK optic heads?

In most cases, yes – our brackets are designed to fit standard UK optic heads and are compatible with Beaumont and the other brands we carry. If you’ve got existing optics and you’re not sure about a specific fit, call the trade team on 01256 769990 before you order. Takes two minutes and saves a return.

Can I buy bar optics in bulk for a new bar setup?

Yes – bar optics and brackets are available at wholesale trade prices with bulk discounts available on larger orders. If you’re fitting a new bar or looking to replace stock across multiple sites, a trade account is probably the right approach – it’s quick to set up and gives you access to wholesale prices across the full range on an ongoing basis. Give us a call to talk through the volumes and we can sort the pricing from there.

What brands of bar optics do you stock?

We stock Beaumont bar optics and barware. Beaumont has been a standard name in the UK on-trade for a long time – most people who’ve worked behind a bar here will have used their optics without necessarily knowing the brand name. They’re made for high-volume trade use across UK pubs, bars and hotels, and in our experience they hold up well in sustained use, which is the main thing.

Do you offer next-day delivery on bar optics?

Yes – next-day delivery is available across the UK on orders placed before the daily cut-off, with free delivery on qualifying orders. If you need something urgently – a unit’s gone down mid-week, a fit-out has moved forward – call 01256 769990 rather than ordering online and we can check live stock and confirm delivery timescales while you’re on the phone.
