Ramekins are used for the preparation, cooking and serving of various food dishes and sauces. Ramekins are generally associated with desserts. Most typically Creme Brulees where a blow torch is used to caramelise the top layer. Other desserts such as crème caramel, chocolate mousses, cheesecakes are also cooked and served in ramekins. Ramekins are made from various materials including stainless steel, melamine, porcelain etc. Depending on material some can be used both in the oven and microwave where as other types ie melamine are not and are normally used for dips and sauces.
